Nikko is known for its natural waterfalls, which have been the subject of many woodblock prints since the Edo period. This example of Urami waterfall as depicted by Hiroshige, is amongst the most celebrated waterfall prints, for its varied use of Bokashi gradation in 3 different colours, as well as the unusual 'sideways' Bokashi along the length of the waterfall, giving depth to the flowing waters. This particular impression features light mica dusting over the image.
